In collaboration with the Los Angeles Innovation Team, we developed a new way for residents to give feedback to City Hall, without having to trudge to a wood-paneled room, and sign up for a 5 minute speaking slot. Instead of forcing people to come to City Hall, we went to the residents with a first prototype of a mobile listening pop-up at a community college jobs fair.
We believe that the ideas emerge when we design - not for - the people who live here.
We created a landscape of interaction station so that residents who pass by can decide for themselves how involved they can get, with each station allowing residents to give meaningful feedback.
Residents fill out information about their neighborhood, creating an insider's guide, mapping out the best of their neighborhood
Residents quickly fill in their answers about local government, how they feel about service, and their awareness around the services
City practitioners don't always know how residents want to be contacted. This allowed the Innovation Team to begin to get a qualitative heatmap of preferred communication types.
